Our Bilingual Baby

Splish, Splash, I was taking a bath!

"Cheese"

Caleb LOVES taking baths. In fact, he loves them so much that he will have already had one and then he will come up to Ongo or I and say "Baf, baf." It really is very cute. Well, last night after dinner, Caleb came up to me and said, "Baf," so I told him that daddy was going to give him a bath tonight. He went up to Ongo and said, "Daddy, baf," and Ongo said, "Ko e ha e mea oku ke fiema'u?" (which for all of you who do not know Tongan means, "What do you want?"). Caleb then looks up and Ongo and says, "Kaukau," which is the Tongan word for bath. What a smart little boy. It is so amazing how he distinguishes between the language that Ongo speaks to him and the language that I speak to him. It is amazing how little babies are like sponges and they soak up so much information in such a short amount of time.

It was so cute, when I went in to take pictures of Caleb, he looked up at me and said, "Cheese."

Cutie Caleb
